Preventing Depression. Three ways to combat depression: Consume high quality animal-based omega-3 fats – Your brain is about 60% fat (DHA), so you need a constant supply of essential omega-3 fats for your brain to work properly. The best source is krill oil, which has been found to be 48 times more potent than fish oil. Exercise – Physical exercise is one of the best ways to prevent and treat depression. Avoid sugar – Sugar and high fructose corn syrup (the number one source of calories in the US), have a detrimental impact on your brain function. Dr. Joseph Mercola
Diet: Why We Over-Eat. Sight- MRIs show brain patterns differ when viewing foods we like and don't like. The body anticipates food entering the system, which is why our mouth starts to water. Dessert- After a large meal, we "make room" for dessert because our desire for sweets hasn't been satisfied. Sometimes, all it takes is fruit in a salad to curb a sugar craving. Smell- Scent cues us that food is near. Once the trigger goes off, insulin secretion is induced, making us think we're hungry. Refined Carbs- After a meal heavy in refined carbohydrates, like pasta, the body may crave food again within a few hours. Carbs cause blood sugar to drop, which causes us to be hungry again. Exercise: Ways
to stick with an exercise program for the long term:
* Break up your workout. You don't need to exercise in a single block of
time to see results. Take the stairs at work, park farther away from where you
are going (work, school, the grocery store, etc.). You can potentially burn
just as many calories during the day doing this as you would at the gym.
* Start small. Most people overdo it when they start an exercise program by
going to the gym every day. Then, we get so sore or burned out that start
hating it. Harvard Medical School
Chiropractic: The importance of flexibility. Flexibility is an important fitness measure;
in fact, it's one of the five health-related components
of physical fitness. The other four are: 1. muscular strength 2. muscle
endurance 3. cardio-respiratory endurance and 4. body
composition. Health benefits attributed to flexibility: increased
circulation, improved posture, better coordination and stress relief. Mayo
